Institution

Institution is defined as "an organization founded for a religious, educational, professional, or social purpose", showing the strength within Avicii's impact as he is so highly regarded socially and professionally. This is proven by Avicii's success.

Institution is proof on Avicii's success and recognition within the market as he is so well known and highly respected. here is a quote from http://www.aceshowbiz.com/celebrity/avicii/biography.html which is a clear indication of Avicii's impact within the market of his early success.

"He put his music online and started to gain recognition in 2010 when he got signed to EMI. He reached to top 20 in several countries including the U.K. with his track "Seek Bromance". After an incredible year with worldwide hit singles like "My Feelings For You" plus hit remixes of DJ Tiesto, Robyn, and Bob Sinclar, all bodes right for Avicii in 2011."

Avicii is a mainstream and highly successful house artist. He will be played on radio stations that are commercial and that are listened to by a majority of the population inside England. Examples can include Capital, Kiss 100 and Radio 1, our song can be played throughout the day other than on the midnight rock show. This will be great promotion for our song as it will be played throughout the day on various different shows. Further promotionally, Avicii is generally a well known artist through word of mouth. He is one of my favourite artists proving this point. It will be easy to promote our music video as Avicii is so well known world wide. Below is two screen grabs of the time schedule of Radio 1, in which Avicii will have a place.

Wake Me Up: Making The Music Video

I thought it would be importaint to research the production of Avicii's music videos, finding this video helped me to understand the vibe used and how the video is actually produced. A happy and positive theme is followed throughout helping to enforce the norms of the genre. Watching this video also helped to show me how the filming was carried out and certain editing styles Avicii follows in his music videos. Without this video it would be harder to keep our music video relateable to the real artists. What was interesting to realise was the general 'random' theme within the genre as so many different things were able to be involved within different Avicii videos. This video helped me to understand more bout Avicii and the way that he wants to display his songs through music videos.

Mood Board of intial ideas

Here is some of the ideas that gave us inspiration when planning the filming of our video. You can clearly see how artists from the genre such as David Guetta and Avicii himself as we wanted to look at colour usage to help us decide what shots and effects could be used within the video. Iconic views suuch as big ben are also shown to prove that even from the beggining we wanted to involve the idea of London within out video. As well as this within the moodboard live performances are shown which is a large part of the genre itself. We are trying to decide if including this within the video would be a good idea as it looks as if it is a cheap attempt to follow the artist. As none of us own DJ decks it may be seen as a joke.

Codes and conventions of House Genre

We decided to pick a song fitting into the House Genre. After research through the R and B Genre we decided that we would be much happier to focus in the House Genre. Inside R and B there is major focus of sex and we feel this idea of voyeurism is not what we want to portray. We feel it would look tacky and also sexist if we tried to copy the norms within the Genre, which also include very expensive material goods which we could not replicate with such ease. It also proved difficult to get girls to participate in the video if they had to walk around a car in a bikini. Overall, it is clear that the House Genre was the right path to go down as it is more suited to our lifestyle and would be much easier to replicate.

SWOT Analysis

We thought it would be very important to assess the blog from last year. This would enable us to realise issues that we faced and enable us to not make those problems again. In doing so I believe this will give us an advantage to create an even better blog than last year and give ourselves as much advantage going into the exam as possible.
