Weather precautions and analysis

Weather precautions and analysis

It was important to plan filming dates and also the weather on these dates. We did not want to get to the locations, especially London, and find that the weather was cold and raining. This does not fit the conventions of the genre as the House genre focuses on a happy and positive looking visuals through weather. We would want to film in times when in is bright, clear and also sunny as this would help to enforce the conventions throughout. As we were planning to film late in the year we had even more pressure when having to film as it would become dark quite quickly in the evenings. It was important for us as a group to plan properly and take all of these aspects into consideration.

Avicii - You Make Me - Lyrics

Avicii Lyrics
Here are the lyrics of the song we will be creating in our year 13 coursework. We decided the follow an abstract theme so the lyrics themselves do not have any relevance within the music video. Other groups have followed a narrative which is associated with the lyrics but we decided this would not be the best idea within the group. We didn't want to depend on volunteers to help us with filming and as all members of the group are male we would rather focus on an abstract theme than that of voyeurism and a love story. Through research of the genre we found that there is a lot of rapid editing and also abstract themes followed throughout, we decided to focus more on this idea than a normal narrative, which is more associated within the pop genre in most circumstances. Still, we will make sure to include several different locations and lip sync to the lyrics. We will make sure that David will learn the lyrics to make it much easier to film and produce an effective and realistic looking music video.

Focus Group

We  found the focus group to be very useful, enabling us to find out more about what our target market wants to see in a music video and also other artists that they like listening to. This aided us to realise what we had to base our main focuses on as we are making the product for the audience. Sadly, in the focus group we only had three participants which is not as high as we intended as a larger group could have given a wider perspective. It was because of general willingness for our peers to want to star in the focus group video but nonetheless we still found the focus group to be a positive impact into our research and aided us to create a more attractive music video.

Risk Assesment

Questionnaire Analysis

Music

This post examines the process of deciding which song we chose to make our music video for. It shows that we began with a range of genres and songs, and that we were able to narrow it down to the one. It also portrays which moods and images we need in our video to fit, or against the codes and conventions for a video from the dance music genre.

Lip Sync prelim

We filmed our main actor for a music video doing a practice lip sync, this helped us understand how we was going to do it when it came to actually filming for our music video.

Communication with fans

This is proof of social networking being used to communicate with our fans, some screen grabs are shown, proving our twitter account in active, it is hard to read as the font is small but one of the tweets says. "For our A2 media coursework we have to create a music video, we have chosen You Make Me > Avicii Link attached on next tweet" with a link of the real music video to give our fans an ideas as to what genre and style of music video which is to be created.

The progression of the House Genre

Artist Profile

http://i.szoter.com/c1b23d56ef6a11b0

Here is some information about Avicii that we have researched and found. It gives an indication into the talents and success of the artist. The major help this gave us as a group was the other artists that are within the same genre as Avicii as this helped us to get further inspirations when filming. This was because similar videos of other renowned artists could help us think of other shots as we knew that they linked to the work of Avicii. The research also helped us to see the sheer size of Avicii's fanbase and the high expectations we had to live up to when researching Avicii's work.

Finished Logo

This is our finished logo which as a group we feel is essential in regards to the music industry. It is such an easy way to acknowledge a brand on CD cases, posters and the music videos themselves. As it holds importance it also has to hold relevance. We feel the laurel, headphones and vinyl record al help to symbolise a contemporary link towards music, much like a bicep being used as a logo for a gym brand. We are able to link to the market. It is also quite simple which we discussed and thought would be the best option, the most famous logos in the world are the simplest, McDonalds has an M and Apple has a bitten apple. This will be used in all aspects of Big D Productions work as it is such an simple and effective use of publicity.

Questionnaire

This is our questionnaire, we are going to hand it to a mixed group of ages and gender and use there feedback and comments to influence our music video.

Use Of Instagram

Instagram is a social media site that allows users to upload their own pictures and videos to be viewed by others. We used Instagram throughout our thriller opening and decided that we could use it again as a social platform for the music video. This means we could upload pictures for example of images that influenced us with our video, or pictures of group members during filming. It also means we can use it to shoot a preliminary video for the lip sync task.

Logo Ideas

We wanted to choose a logo to replace our design from last year as this showed we were more focused on the music industry and the house genre itself. To build a stronger relationship with our audience we decidied for them to help us choose the logo. The four key ideas will be numbered 1-4 in order of the popularity to the audience. To help us decide we will give a number tally, the lowest being the most popular and the highest being the least. We as a group will have the overall decision but would like to have an input used from the audience.
For the questionnaire we gave out 10 copies with ages varied from 16-35 which fits the age of our genre. The highest score as i have mentioned will be the least popular, the highest possible score will be 40 and the lowest possible will be 10. Here are the results and a pie chart showing a more visual approach to the results.

The lowest score was 13 which was logo 4, as a group we decided this was the most suitable and a few changes may be made before it is used. The general theme around logo 4 is the most popular and suited for the genre, I think it looks professional yet also simple.

Once the design was chosen features were changed, here is an example of a simple change made from word settings in a word document to add an edge to the design.

StoryBoard Plan

This is a plan of our storyboard. I used a website called www.storyboardthat.com to create it. It shows a cartoon version of our main charachter in different costumes in similar locations to which we're filming in for our video. These locations include the beach, the city and Dave's house which has a lake.

Using Skitch

This app is Called Skitch it is a very good photo editor made by the same company that made Evernote, this will help us create the magazine article towards the end of the project, it was also help us to edit any photos that we may need to.

Using Evernote

This is Evernote, this can be linked between the groups devices such as phones and iPads, it will allow us to use it as a kind of diary we can share notes and log what we have done and can plan ahead. this will benefit us as we will be more organised and can plan further ahead.

Using Twitter

@BigDProduction_ last year was a sucess so we wanted to repeat the use of the twitter account. We found that the use of a twitter account was useful to enable a good repoor to be built with fans and followers of the production company.

Setting and Planning brief

Audience Profiles

These are our Audience profiles. We realised they fit the Genre and also the style of our music video. Through this research and post preparation we found that the profiles were very similar to the groups personality traits. Geographically living as well as music interests and age. We realised that it was not only males but also females that are massive fans within the genre showing how important it is to please the audience is so vast. These profiles also help to show that we as a group understand about the conventions of the audiences and the personality traits they follow.

Avicii - You make me (official video)

I thought it would be importaint to put the music video onto the blog as it allows the examiner to understand what song we are using. It also helps to show the conventions we are following through the use of the video. At the beginnning we wanted to follow the music video but then changed our focus onto a more abstract theme.
It proved that to follow a narrative it would be much more difficult and tasking to involve so many actors. Within the filming process we were then given much more time to focus on other aspects that needed to be focused on. It is interesting to note that the this video is very different than the video we hope to produce but shows the flexibility within the genre as we were able to choose a random focus to the video after taking into consideration the factors of production.
